Boohoo, iTunes Movie Rental…
We’ve rented movies from the iTunes Store couple of times before. When the iTunes movie rental first started, I saw lots of complaints from parents of young children about the 24-hour rental period limit. While I saw their point and did not see the point of movie studios requiring that iTunes movie rentals expire 24 hours after starting to watch the movie, I did not think it would affect us.
On Sunday, we rented “Made of Honor” and started watching after Xander fell asleep, around 6:50PM. About half way through the movie, Xander woke up with his nose heavily congested and we had to steam him. Of course we stopped watching the movie and went to sleep soon after Xander finally fell back asleep.
Throughout Monday, iTunes popped up warnings telling me that the rented movie will expire in 10 hours, 9 hours, etc. (The notices did give me the option to turn off subsequent warnings.) After we gave Xander a bath and got him ready for bed, Susanne sat and watched the movie by herself as she put Xander to sleep, while I cooked dinner. She finished watching it right as the rental was about to expire.
I would like someone to explain to me the logic of media licensing rules.
