To Be Titled

Striving to be a good dad, a good husband, a good son/brother, a good political scientist, a good photographer, a good cook and a good homo universalis.

W-4 walked all over me…

So, I finished filing our 2008 taxes this morning, and we’re getting large refunds from both the U.S. and the State of Colorado. (This has to do mostly with mortgage interest payments and Boulder property taxes.) So, I tried to make adjustments to our tax withholdings to reduce the amount of our salaries that the IRS holds on to interest-free. I am sorry to say that I have given up. I tried to work through the W-4 worksheets, the worksheets in IRS Publication 919 (“How Do I Adjust My Tax Withholdings?”) and the IRS Withholdings Calculator. I would like to think of myself as an educated and reasonably intelligent person, but I could not work through those things without continuing to be uncertain whether I was entering the right numbers.

I need professional help….
