To Be Titled

Striving to be a good dad, a good husband, a good son/brother, a good political scientist, a good photographer, a good cook and a good homo universalis.
“Sun Tattoo” — Outside tables at Atlas Purveyors have little flower-patterned holes. The sunlight was shining through the pattern on to a guy’s ankle unbeknownst to him, which I quickly noticed as I was walking by. (Photo via my Flickr)

“Bart’s Music Shack” — Bart’s CD Cellar used to be located in prime real estate on the 1000 block of Pearl Street in Boulder. Earlier in the spring, Bart’s closed down after 20 years like most other music/record stores these days. I thought that was the end of the store altogether. But recently, this sign popped up. The newly renamed and relocated store now occupies a shack behind the parking lot of a real estate office (the grey building on the left side of the photo). The handmade sign belies the full commercial presence of the store, despite its shack-iness. One of these days, I will walk in and say hi to Bart. @dailyshoot #ds230 (via my Flickr)

“Independent” —  While we were spending the late afternoon/early evening at North Boulder Park, I noticed this girl. She came over to Xander as if she was going to play with him, but she sat down and started playing by herself. There were no kids around her, and she didn’t even use the bucket and a shovel lying next to her. (Photo via my Flickr)

“No Access” — The City of Boulder has been replacing wooden bridges over Boulder Creek one at a time. This particular one is at Arapahoe and 13th Street. The construction itself was not that interesting. @dailyshoot #ds228 (via my Flickr)

Tee & Cakes’ Write-Up about My Photo

Last week, I posted this photo I shot for a Daily Shoot assignment. I mentioned @TeeandCakes in my posting. Brian—I presume it’s Brian—saw the photo, very much liked it and asked me if he could post it on their blog. The link points to their blog entry. It’s a great write-up about photos of their shop in general and the story behind my particular photo. The story ends with “long live Trade Gothic 20 Condensed Bold” which leads me to believe that it’s Brian the designer not Kim the pastry chef!

“Do You See What I See?” — A very overdue assignment from about a month ago to shoot some wildlife, photographically. This was a bird on top of the picnic shelter at Martin Park in Boulder. @dailyshoot #ds196

“A Fly on a Ball” — At North Boulder Park with a toy soccer ball. @dailyshoot #ds217 to shoot a photo that creates depth. It was technically hard to do. I initially intended to capture the mountains in the back by shooting wide, but the shots did not turn out as I wanted them to. I like this, however, with the ball (and the fly!) in the foreground, the bike on its side in the middle and the houses in the back nicely bokehed out.

“Tee and Cakes” — @teeandcakes is a coffee, tea, bakery and t-shirts shop in downtown Boulder with a clever name. I have never walked inside, but I do go to the frozen yogurt place next door frequently. They look like they make some amazing cakes! I love the garage door storefront/door of Tee and Cakes, and this is a shot of one of the panels for @dailyshoot #ds216 I wish I had a polarizer with me to cut the glare, but I didn’t.

“Empty” — This is an empty pay-phone stand on 3rd Street at Canyon Boulevard. It’s rare to see functioning pay-phones around anymore these days, except at airports. But it’s interesting how the telecom companies took the phones out but left the empty stands. Perhaps the phone here was not taken by the telecom company. Regardless of who took it out, the stand stands empty. Shot for @dailyshoot #ds212

“Stars, Stripes and a Pole” — Yesterday’s assignment, but I didn’t find any flags yesterday. This is outside the Boulder Main Postoffice on Walnut at 15th Street. [Yes, outside of this.] @dailyshoot #ds211

“Mailboxes” — Postoffice mailboxes at the Boulder Main Postoffice on Walnut at 15th Street. I wonder how the combination locks work. @dailyshoot #ds205 for repetition
